Under the same title ‘Siberian Antiquities’ there are two different texts in R.'s bibliography. The first work was a part of the ‘Materials on the Archeology of Russia’ of the Archaeological Commission, the first volume of which was published in 1891. It was a fundamental archaeological publication that systematized the results of excavations known at that time, provided with tables, descriptions of things, places of their discovery, etc. For accidental finds, extracts from archival files belonging to one or another department were given, which described the circumstances of their discovery. It was a solid archaeological publication that retained its importance for modern archaeologists. The second work under the same title combined travel notes of R.; it was published in 1896, in a translation from German made by A.A. Bobrinsky; it was a description of R.’s travels through the territory of Southern Siberia and modern Kazakhstan, excavations of burial mounds made by R. himself (the earliest date back to 1865), and his observations regarding the way of life and economy of people of the Bronze and Iron Ages. As a source of information on the excavated monuments and provenance of things from there, this publication also retains it importance for modern archaeologists, but non-specialists will be interested in describing the methods of archaeological excavations at an early stage of their development in Russia.
