In the monograph much attention is paid to religious issues. Mentions about rituals connected with life cycle can be found in various sections of this work, but religious issues are reflected in two of them in the most detailed way. The chapter ‘The Place of Lithuanians and Other Nationalities in the Ethnic History of Belarusians’ tells about the peculiarities of Christianization of the population of the territories that make up modern Belarus. Religious views of Belarusians are considered in sufficient details in the final chapter of the monograph ‘Some Features of the Spiritual Culture of the Belarusian Nation’. After a brief review of popular ideas about the Trinity, the Mother of God and saints, the author focuses on the rites of the annual cycle of agricultural work, social customs, and rituals of the life cycle. At the same time, G. notes that, although religious holidays among Belarusians professing Orthodoxy and Catholicism may differ, in general, religious ideas and rituals generally coincide. The reason, on his opinion, is rooted in the fact that the influence of Christianization was superficial and did not change the magical meaning of traditional rites. Among the festive rites, G. especially describes Belarusian carols (Christmas rites and songs), the celebration of the Easter, and walking processions and songs for the celebration of Kupala (festive of the summer solstice). The rituals of delivery and baptism, as well as the institution of nepotism, are also described in great details. As for the other rituals of life cycle, wedding rites are also analyzed.
