The work of lecturer encouraged V. N. Kharusina to write a fundamental book ‘Ethnography’, which included a review of the history of ethnographical studies, essays on methods of ethnography based on the convergence of empiric and theoretic approaches. The main attention was paid at beliefs of various peoples. The book provided information about leading western research works in the field of religious studies: those by G. Frazer, M. Mueller, Chantepie de la Saussaye, E. Taylor, et al. Giving preference to the comparative-historical method, the author systematized and considered from theoretical point of view all ethnographical material presented in her course. One of the first among Russian scholars, she turned to the general problems of the history of religion, considering certain issues of definitions of religion and specific terms for its parts – such as Fetishism, Totemism, and Animism. The author criticized the idea, that all religions, except Christianity, were false, and the so called ‘less cultural peoples’ stayed without religious beliefs at all. In her work, Kh. Demonstrated the importance of synthesis of ethnography and religious studies.
