It was the first general encyclopedic reference book of Orthodox priests and monks who were authors of religious and didactic-ecclesiastic compositions. Biographies of that Lexicon were published in the magazine ‘Drug prosveshcheniya’ (Friend of the Emlightenment), and in some other magazines in 1805-1806. In spite of a great number of misprints in the first publication (the author decided even to take off his name from the title page), in 1818 the Lexicon was translated into German; and in 1819 – into Sweden. The second publication was seriously corrected. In general, it was an important source of information both for Russian and European scholars.
