The book was published in the series of the ‘Literary Monuments’; it was a transkalation of the basic texts of the Ancient Egyptian literature from the twentieth till the tenth centuries BCE into Russian. The texts were translated by a specialist in Egyptian studies, L., who made comments to them, references to publications of the original versions of the texts, and R.I. Rubinstein wrote a long article on the history of the Ancient Egyptian literature. At that, the publication can be useful not for the specialists only, but also for inquisitive readers without special Egyptologist training.
The collection contains such texts as ‘The Story of Sinuhe’, ‘The Snakes Island (Tale of the Shipwrecked Sailor)’, The Eloquent Peasant’, ‘The Blinding of Truth by Falsehood’, ‘Contendings of Horus and Set’, ‘The Misadventures of Wenamun’, etc.
